Change Z Podcast

PROJECT ROLE: Host / Recordist / Picture & Sound Editor

One of the very first professional projects I worked on was the Change Z Podcast, which was formed as a part of the NCS Local Youth Board in 2020, in conjunction with Derby County Community Trust. Our aim was to make a project accessible to all generations that discussed social justice and current affairs from the perspective of Generation Z. Although the Covid-19 pandemic changed our original plans for launching the podcast, we were able to record the first, and only, in-person episode in December 2020; we recorded an episode every month until July 2021. While we were releasing episodes, we received an NCS Changemakers article about the project and were able to release episodes across YouTube as well as across various audio platforms (such as Spotify and Apple Podcasts).

My role shifted from just a contributor and host to that of the picture and sound editor for the main podcast while RamsTV provided the graphics. I also became responsible for distributing the audio form of the podcast, as well as developing some digital extras for our podcast's clips channel.

In addition to our monthly episodes, we branched into producing some digital content to complement the episodes and cover events that were ongoing but did not fit into our monthly themed discussions. The first filmed extra we produced was one that I independently recorded, edited and provided graphics for which covered the murder of Sarah Everard. The podcast episode that month was about feminism and protecting women, and so I shot a digital extra that was about what men could do to ensure women's safety.
