'Heaven Knows' was my graduate project, and it proved to be our most ambitious undertaking thus far. Taking on a subject area with as much rich history as the Troubles was no mean feat, and finding a way to recreate a historical Ireland in the middle of Hertfordshire took a lot of work throughout all stages of production. We wanted to capture a story of love amidst a staunch division, and thus we wanted to adapt the classic tale of 'Romeo and Juliet' in a brand new context. While trying to visualise the film, I ended up writing a song to compliment the romance of our two protagonists - which ended up becoming a featured part of the story as well as lending the film its title!

 

Working with professional actors and shooting on 4K cameras was incredibly daunting, but I could not be prouder of my exceptional team who really made everything come together. Watching the crew excel in their roles was an absolute joy, and being able to direct a story like this with such talented people was a privilege in itself. Having the opportunity to present the film at the University of Hertfordshire Visions Film Festival, alongside so many other exceptional student films, rounded off a surreal filmmaking journey!
