Behind the Scenes at the Edinburgh TV Festival
(The Network: CNN Mobile Journalism Workshop)
PROJECT ROLE: Camera Operator / Sound Operator / The Network Delegate
One of the biggest highlights of my creative career has been attending the Edinburgh TV Festival as a delegate on 'The Network' scheme. As one of the 50 applicants to be selected out of over 700 applicants, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that allowed me to connect with so many industry professionals and brand-new creatives from across the UK. During the workshop I participated in, I was able to hone my practical craft - working with mobile devices to record and edit a short journalism piece for CNN broadcasters. We had to work on a tight turnaround - recording all of our footage in the span of a few hours, to edit the next day in addition to showcasing it at a panel for all attendees at the TV Festival. I was fortunate enough to be paired with two great filmmakers, who were fellow delegates on the programme, as we chose to look behind the scenes of the event to meet the people who made it all happen.
It was also a privilege to be able to speak to representatives from the Television Foundation to talk about my experience on 'The Network', which was featured both in a video about my specific workshop with CNN and a promotional video for 'The Network 2025', the latter of which is below:
